What's New

A plain-language rundown of what each Sereal release added and changed.

This page summarizes what's new in Sereal in plain language — what you can do now that you couldn't before. It's grouped by release, newest first. For the complete, technical record (every Added / Changed / Fixed line, plus upgrade notes), see the full CHANGELOG.md on GitHub.

Sereal is still in its 0.x phase — pre-1.0 snapshots where features arrive quickly and things can shift between versions. Dates below are when the batch shipped.

Unreleased

0.10.0 — August 2026

Mostly behind-the-scenes work on the tools used to run Sereal. One thing you might notice, and only if you're brand new.

New accounts start with neutral starter boxes. If you create an account from now on, the example boxes Sereal sets up for you are generic ones rather than the oddly specific leftovers from the original single-user install.

Everything else in this release is operator tooling — the admin console that runs the platform — plus a round of reliability work on the machinery behind it. Nothing you can reach changed, and nothing you had is gone.

0.9.1 — August 2026

A tidier sidebar, and one thing moved that's worth knowing about.

Sign out now lives on your Account page. It used to sit at the bottom of the sidebar; it's now on Account, in the card with your email and last sign-in. One extra click, but it frees up a permanent spot in the sidebar for something you use every day rather than once in a while. On your phone nothing changes — Sign out is still in the More menu.

Collapsing the sidebar feels less odd. The little round arrow used to float just outside the sidebar, on top of the page. It's now a Collapse row at the bottom of the sidebar itself, under Docs, looking like every other item in there. ⌘B still collapses and expands it, and it still remembers whether you left it open or closed.

0.9.0 — August 2026

A friendlier first open, a show workflow that remembers last time, and a long run of fixes to capture and pricing.

Your first look at Sereal isn't empty anymore. A brand-new account now starts with two clearly-labeled example cards, so features like the Grading Flip Check show you a real number the first time you open them instead of sitting blank until you've added something. The examples never count toward your collection value, your totals, or your exports — and a Remove sample cards button clears them out whenever you're ready. They come with front and back photos and full card details, so it reads like a real collection rather than a placeholder. If you already have an account, nothing changes for you.

Shows now remember last time. When you finish a show, you can archive the session and carry its unsold cards straight into your next one, so you're not rebuilding your loadout from scratch. You can also snap a receipt photo on anything you sell. The Hunt tab is now called Buy.

"Promote" is now "Save." The capture and Intake flow says Save throughout — it's what you were actually doing, so it now says so.

Edit a card without leaving Intake. Cards in your Intake queue have a pencil menu that opens the same editor you'd use anywhere else, so you can fix a detail in place instead of navigating away and back.

Long Intake queues stay quick. A queue with thousands of cards now only draws the rows you can actually see, so switching to Intake stays snappy instead of slowing down as your queue grows. And if the queue is long enough that Sereal can't show all of it at once, it now tells you — before, you'd silently see a partial list.

One Add button. Adding to your inventory is now a single, consistent control wherever you are, rather than a different-looking button on each screen.

Listings that need you now say why. On the Sell Desk, the old "Stale" flag — which only ever meant "this has been up a while" — is replaced by a worklist that names the actual reason a listing needs attention, and more than one reason can apply. Publishing a listing resets its clock.

More trustworthy card reads and pricing. A batch of fixes here:

  • Sereal no longer analyzes a card before both photos have finished uploading, which used to make it drop the card number or year.
  • A rough value built from too few comparable sales — sometimes as little as a stray one cent — is no longer saved.
  • Card matching can no longer land on the wrong player's card.
  • Capture thumbnails no longer come up blank.
  • Adding a comic from Intake now confirms it with a message, matching cards.
  • Your inventory list refreshes right away after you release or discard a card.
  • The Sold Log no longer asks whether to discard changes you just saved successfully.

Security updates. Image uploads are now size-capped and served more strictly, so an oversized or mistyped file can't be handed back as something it isn't. Seeded example cards are now protected at the database level from being forged or converted into real inventory. We also refreshed several dependencies to clear known advisories. Nothing changes in how you use Sereal.

0.8.0 — July 2026

A big batch: one home for everything you own, offline-ready capture, smarter card recognition, and a clearer path from snapshot to sale.

A single home for everything you own. Collection, Intake, and By Box now live in one place with a tab switcher at the top — no more bouncing between screens to see your cards, work your triage queue, or check what's in each box. The old separate "Inventory" page is gone, and any link that used to point there now brings you straight here.

"Needs Review" is now "Intake." The tab where you triage freshly captured cards has a clearer name and a more sensible spot in the tab order. It's had a cleaner, action-focused makeover so it's obvious what to do with each card, and importing and uploading now live right here where you're already working.

Capture cards even when you're offline. Sereal is now an installable app you can add to your phone's home screen. Snap photos and add new cards with no connection — at a show, in a basement, wherever — and Sereal quietly queues everything and syncs it up automatically the moment you're back online.

Faster, smarter card recognition. When you capture a card, Sereal can now check it against a shared card catalog to pin down exactly what it is, more precisely than reading the photo alone. It also shows comp pricing right in the capture and Intake flow, so you can price a card as you go instead of looking it up later.

Smoother card promotion. After you review a captured card, Save & Next takes you straight to the next one instead of dropping you back to the queue — and the comp you already pulled comes along with it, so Sereal isn't re-fetching what you just looked at. Sereal now also warns you before you promote a card that's still missing its front photo, so nothing slips through half-finished.

Upload scans from your computer. You're no longer limited to the camera — you can bring in front and back scans straight from a file on your computer and run them through the same capture flow.

Clearer selling and sale intent. Marking an item for sale is now its own deliberate action, so an item only heads toward selling when you actually say so. And the various selling screens are consolidated into a single tabbed workspace, so everything about moving an item lives in one place.

Autograph detection. When you capture a card, Sereal now looks for real autograph evidence — a certified-autograph label or an actual signature — and flags the card as an autograph. You'll see a new Autograph toggle when adding or editing a card, in both your Collection and your Wishlist. eBay comp searches for autographed cards now look for autographed comps instead of comparing against the base card.

Security updates. Refreshed a dependency (sharp, used for image handling) across the app to clear a known security advisory. Nothing changes in how you use Sereal.

More reliable comp search. When our comp-search provider has a rough patch (like a temporary outage), Sereal now shows a clearer message instead of a raw error code — and, more importantly, those failed searches no longer count against your monthly comp search budget. Before, a provider hiccup could quietly eat into your budget for searches that never actually returned any data.

0.7.13 — July 2026

Low-interest cards in Intake are easier to act on.

A tidy actions menu for low-interest cards. In your Intake queue, the "Low interest" cards now show the quick Bulk button plus a ⋯ menu on the right with everything else — Keep, Sell Raw, Grade, Lot, Skip, and Delete. Before, you had to click the row itself (with no hint that you could) to see those actions. Now each card stays a clean single line, the menu is right where you'd expect, and it works with the keyboard too.

0.7.12 — July 2026

Clear out mis-added cards without leaving Intake.

Delete a card right from Intake. Every card in your Intake queue now has a trash button. Tap it and the row asks "Delete this card?" — confirm and it's gone, no more hopping over to Inventory to find and delete it. (Cards tied to a sale, an active lot, or a packed show loadout are protected — Sereal tells you and keeps the card.)

0.7.11 — July 2026

Small polish and behind-the-scenes security updates.

A little visual tidy-up. The "Upload" and "Add Card" buttons in your inventory now line up as a matched pair.

Security updates. Refreshed a few dependencies to clear known security advisories. Nothing changes in how you use Sereal.

0.7.10 — July 2026

A fix that keeps promoting a captured card from ever creating a duplicate.

No more accidental duplicates when you promote a card. If something hiccuped while a promote was linking the card to its photo, the card could occasionally get created twice. Now the link is locked in first, so a promote that runs into a snag keeps your single card instead of making a second one. If the photo can't attach in that moment, the card is still promoted and Sereal just asks you to re-upload the photo.

0.7.9 — July 2026

Promote a captured card and go straight to comps.

Promoting a card takes you right to its comps. When you promote a card from the capture inbox, Sereal now opens it directly in the item view — with the comp panel and full details — instead of dropping you back to the inbox to go find the card. Hit Save, Promote & Run Comps and you're there; if you're promoting a stack, Save & Promote & Done keeps you moving through the inbox.

A behind-the-scenes security patch. Updated a dependency to clear a known security advisory. Nothing changes in how you use Sereal.

0.7.8 — July 2026

Card capture reads more of the card, and the inbox keeps up when you save.

Team and manufacturer fill themselves in. When you snap a card, Sereal now reads the player's team and the card's brand right off the photo and drops them into the Add Card form — less to type before you save.

A set name, suggested for you. Add Card proposes a set name built from the year, brand, product, and sport (like "2025 Topps Cosmic Chrome Basketball"). It's just a starting point — edit or clear it however you like.

The inbox updates the moment you save. Promote a captured card and it drops off the inbox right away, with the next one ready — no more refreshing the page to see what's left.

0.7.7 — July 2026

More reliable card capture, smarter suggestions, and a refreshed Wishlist and Settings.

Your back photo won't get lost. If the back-of-card photo hiccups while attaching (a flaky moment on mobile), Sereal now retries on its own — and if it still can't attach, finishing the card asks whether to Retry or Finish without back, instead of quietly saving it front-only with no card number.

Smarter suggestions. When the AI can't read a card's year clearly, it now leaves it blank instead of guessing a wrong one you'd have to catch — and it flags rookie cards when it spots an RC badge.

Wishlist and Settings refresh. A cleaner, more card-focused Wishlist, and a modernized Settings page.

0.7.6 — July 2026

Capture the back of a card, not just the front.

Add the back of a card when you capture it. After snapping the front, an "Add back" button lets you grab the back too. Sereal reads both sides together, so the card number — which usually only lives on the back — gets filled in for you, ready for an eBay comp search. The back is optional, and it doubles as your back listing photo.

A capture inbox that keeps itself current. Freshly snapped cards now appear on their own and the "Analyzing… → ✨ ready" status flips without a page refresh. Promoting a card opens the Add Card form instantly — you can start typing right away while the AI suggestion fills in around you, never overwriting what you've already entered.

0.7.5 — July 2026

Snap a card and Sereal fills in the details for you.

AI-assisted card capture. Snap a card in the capture inbox and Sereal reads the photo to identify the player, year, set, card number, and sport — plus the grader and grade if it's a slab — then pre-fills the Add Card form for you to review. Nothing is ever saved automatically; you always confirm or edit first. If a card is hard to read or the service is briefly unavailable, you just fill it in by hand as before. Cards only for now — comics are unchanged.

0.7.4 — July 2026

The capture inbox tidies itself.

Discarded captures clean themselves up. A background job now clears out captures you discarded more than a week ago (and their photos), so your "needs promotion" inbox doesn't collect leftovers. Captures you haven't acted on are never touched — only ones you explicitly discarded.

0.7.3 — July 2026

A cleaner shared-item image. The blurred backdrop behind a shared card is now stronger and a touch dimmer, so the slab behind it isn't recognizable and the card reads as the clear hero.

0.7.2 — July 2026

Turn a snapped photo into a real item, plus mobile and onboarding polish.

Promote a captured photo into an item. A photo you snapped into the Inventory capture inbox can now be promoted into a real Sereal item: press Promote to open the Add Card/Comic form with the photo shown inline and a "Save & Promote" action. Saving creates the item and moves the photo onto it; Release returns a capture to the inbox.

Mobile and onboarding polish. The bottom tabs now promote Sell Desk and relabel Inventory as Intake, the intent picker has a clearer selected state, and new-user copy was added on Wishlist, eBay Imports, and the Thesis field.

Shared-image blur fixed on iPhone. The shared-item image's blurred backdrop now renders correctly on iOS, where an earlier attempt didn't hold. Also fixed: Add Comic's "Add Another" in one-shot flows.

0.7.1 — July 2026

Shared image fixed on mobile. The downloadable/shareable social image no longer loses its blurred backdrop on iPhone and in in-app browsers, and the card fills more of the frame so it reads better in a post.

0.7.0 — July 2026

Live eBay listing management, photo-first capture, and Instagram-ready share images.

Manage your live eBay listings from Sereal. Once an item is listed, you can lower its price, relist it, or end the listing without leaving the app. A Best-Offer floor auto-declines offers below your net-aware minimum, and listings are badged as API-managed vs. manually tracked so you can't accidentally change one Sereal only watches.

Photo-first bulk capture on mobile. Snap cards straight into a capture inbox and promote them later, instead of typing first. A camera button opens a keep-snapping sheet; captures land in a "needs promotion" strip on Inventory. This is the groundwork the later AI-autofill capture builds on.

Share a collectible as an Instagram-ready image. The public share page can generate a branded 1080×1350 image of your card or comic on the Sereal poster look, tagged with serealbox.com. One share icon adapts per device — the native share sheet on a phone, a download on desktop.

Plus. A heads-up before listing an item that's at the grader, one-tap eBay reconnect when the connection drops, dashboard and Collection polish, loading skeletons on data-heavy screens, and fixes so first-run screens aren't dead ends.

0.6.0 — July 2026

An assisted sell price when you list, plus faster wishlist card entry.

A suggested price when you list. When you list a card or comic on eBay — or re-price one that's been sitting — Sereal now suggests a price. You get a range (Fast to move it, Recommended, or Patient to hold out for a stronger buyer) built from recent sold comps, plus a separate floor for the lowest offer worth taking. It shows how confident it is in those comps and lets you pull fresh ones in a tap. It's only a suggestion — take it, nudge it, or type your own — and it's clearly labeled an estimate to double-check before you list.

Faster wishlist card entry. Adding a card to your wishlist now works like the rest of card intake: autocomplete for player, set, manufacturer, and product; category and team auto-filled from players you've entered before; a one-tap star; and an eBay Find Match that fills in the details from a real listing.

Track raw hunts, not just graded. Every wishlist card and comic has a "Hunting for a graded copy" toggle, so you can track a raw copy you're after — it saves cleanly without firing graded-only deal alerts.

Run comps as you add a wish. A new Save + Run Comps option pulls a fresh comp anchor for a graded target without the save-reopen-edit dance.

0.5.0 — July 2026

A signup fix on the public site, a faster way to log eBay sales, and quality-of-life fixes across Breaks and Listings.

Joining the waitlist works again. The "I'm human" check on the serealbox.com waitlist could leave you stuck — asking you to complete a check that wasn't visible. It now clears itself and submits as soon as the check passes, so requesting access just works.

Log an eBay sale in a click. When a listing sells on eBay, you can record the sale straight into your sold log from the Listings screen — no re-entering the details.

Smoother Breaks entry. Entering break transactions is less fiddly: comp lookup, per-player/team allocation, overflow, managing cards, and detaching all behave the way you'd expect.

Link and Dismiss actually stick. On the Listings needs-link screen, the Link and Dismiss buttons were quietly doing nothing in some cases — they now save.

0.4.0 — July 2026

The Collectible Case opens, clearing comps gets faster, the public site is rebuilt, and the waitlist finally writes back.

Your Case — a trophy shelf for your profile. Sereal now has a Collectible Case: a set of digital collectible cards you earn. The first is a serialized Founder card — Series Zero, only ten will ever exist, one per account — plus a one-of-one "The Original Rip" card. Your profile also gets its own account code.

Clear a whole batch of comps in one click. On the Pending Comp Review queue, the clean, high-confidence rows can now be approved together instead of one at a time. Rows flagged for review still ask you to confirm each one, so nothing risky slips through.

A rebuilt landing page. The public site was redesigned with real photos of a collection and true-to-life app views.

The waitlist emails you — and them. When someone joins the waitlist, you get an alert and they get a thank-you that sets the invite-only expectation, within a few minutes. Everyone already on the list before this change stays quiet — only new signups get emailed.

0.3.3 — July 2026

A clarity release out of a top-to-bottom usability review — the app explains itself better and is safer to click around in.

Deals tell you more at a glance. Every deal now spells out what its tier means (Buy Now vs Make Offer vs Watch), shows how motivated the seller looks on a 1–5 scale, and labels the three suggested offer amounts as High, Suggested, and Lowball — all anchored to your comp.

Your wishlist tells you why a deal isn't showing. If you switch a wishlist item to "Tracking" but it's missing something the deal search needs — a max price, a target grade, or it's set to raw — the row now says so, instead of quietly never finding anything.

Purchases and eBay Imports are reachable on your phone. Both pages had dropped out of the mobile menu; they're back.

Deleting is safer. If you try to delete an item that has a recorded sale, is part of an active lot, or is in a show loadout, Sereal now stops you and explains why — so a delete can't quietly break your sales history.

Plainer wording in a few places. The Sell Desk and Positions pages dropped some technical jargon for everyday language, and "Position" is now used consistently for what used to flip between "position" and "thesis."

A clearer eBay message. When a deal search can't reach eBay, it now says "eBay search unavailable — try again" instead of making it look like there were simply no results.

0.3.2 — June 2026

A small polish release focused on finalizing breaks.

Reconciling a break is far less scrolly. When you finalize the spots from a break, the detail panel now stays put on screen while you scroll the list, the list starts on just your Open spots, and finishing one jumps you straight to the next — so you can clear a whole break without hunting up and down the page. When everything's done, you get an "all caught up" note, and the spots table fits properly now instead of scrolling sideways.

Behind the scenes, a noisy eBay error alert was quieted down.

0.3.1 — June 2026

A tune-up release — small refinements and a handful of fixes that make everyday work less surprising.

Deleting a sale gives the card back. If you remove a sale, the card it was linked to now returns to your collection instead of quietly disappearing. (To re-point a sale at a different item, delete it and record it again — a sale's link is locked once it's saved, so the numbers behind it stay trustworthy.)

Valuable cards stop hiding under "Low Interest." At intake, a card's comp or estimated value now lifts its interest tier, so a genuinely valuable card can't be tagged Low.

The Deals "Watch" threshold works. Setting your Watch threshold now actually changes which high-priority listings show up as Watch — previously the setting had no effect.

Cleaner Positions. The Positions view no longer shows a misleading single-position summary when you've only got the catch-all bucket, and "Unattached" is now called "Unsorted."

Behind the scenes, the owner can now flag a card whose comp or interest looks off to help tune Sereal's accuracy over time, plus reliability fixes to comp checks and eBay purchase syncing.

0.3.0 — June 2026

The public-beta batch: pull your eBay purchases in automatically, two free tools anyone can use, and a dashboard that tells you what to do next.

Import purchases straight from eBay. Connect your eBay account once, then sync your won purchases into a review queue. Sereal guesses whether each one is a break or a single, warns you if it looks like something you already own, and lets you file it into your collection or a break in a couple of clicks. Your eBay login is sealed server-side and never touches the browser.

Two free tools, no signup. Break Edge (/break-edge) is a card-break break-even calculator — paste a checklist and spot prices to see what each slot needs to be worth, print-run aware. 1/1 Sightings (/1of1) is a community evidence layer for one-of-one cards: search whether a 1/1 has been publicly sighted before you chase it, and submit sightings of your own (with a source link or dated photo).

A dashboard that points you at the next move. The new Do Next row puts three time-sensitive cards above the fold: auctions ending soon, this month's spend by category, and the deals worth acting on. Your recommendations are still there, just moved into a calmer "Worth a look" band below.

Sharper grading and comps. Record the grading service (PSA / CGC) right on the pipeline, pull a card back out of the queue from any stage, and let pipeline dates advance status for you. The dashboard's typical card value is now a cards-only median instead of an average skewed by one big card. Comp updates are safer too — risky comps get held for review with clearer Refresh-vs-Apply wording.

Opening up (carefully). Sereal is now an invite-only beta with public Privacy, Terms, and Beta pages and an access-code signup. It's hosted and managed — self-hosting stays internal and experimental for now.

0.2.0 — June 2026

The first themed batch since launch: live break tracking, a guided first-run experience, and tools for working a card show from your phone — plus a wide pass of correctness and polish across the app.

Track group breaks. A dedicated Breaks surface lets you split the cost of a group break across spots — Pick-Your-Player, Pick-Your-Team, or random — so each card you pull carries an honest cost basis instead of guesswork. You can link a pulled card to its break right from the card page, and import break purchases straight from a WhatNot CSV.

Get going faster (onboarding). A first-run intent picker meets you on an empty dashboard and tailors what you see to how you actually collect. Once you've added a few things, a persistent setup checklist with deep-linked actions points you at the next useful step. A new Quick Add lane streamlines capture and sends each entry to the right place automatically.

Work a card show from your phone. Show Sessions give you a /show loadout built for the floor — pull up what you're hunting and what you're carrying without fighting the full desktop UI.

See your collection's trajectory. The dashboard now charts portfolio value over time, surfaces thesis alerts for positions that need attention, and lets you export realized gains for tax season. A Recently Added filter (Today / 7d / 30d / All) makes it easy to find what you just logged.

Sharper everywhere. Cards and comics reached feature parity, the signal engine gained per-sport tuning and broader star/insert coverage, and a beta-readiness pass tightened the day-to-day: clearer toasts, confirm-before- delete, and steadier dashboard math (sold items no longer skew your holdings value).

0.1.0 — May 2026

The first cataloged version — the foundation everything else builds on.

Catalog what you own. Collection management for sports cards and comics, graded and raw, with a spend log and sold log so your hobby P&L is real, not estimated.

Find and chase deals. A Wishlist, Scout for acquisition-side discovery, a Deals tracker, and customizable Discovery rules.

Run the grading pipeline. Track cards (Queued → Submitted → Graded) and comics (with a pressing step), and use the Grading Flip Check to weigh whether grading a card pays off.

Decide with theses. Set a thesis on a position and get thesis-aware hold / trim / sell recommendations across /positions and the /sell-desk.

Move faster at shows and online. Card Show mode for mobile, PSA Vault import, Market Movers export, and eBay Collection CSV export.
